A lot of
amazing stories spring up from this black sordid place of hope and dreams. Even
in those mud of filth and infectious poverty, it takes focus and zeal to spot
the gold ahead.
A lot of
persons are not aware that TECNO Mobile and Infinix Mobile were pioneered by a
Nigerian Entrepreneur. He initiated the idea of both phones, and solely funded
the production of TECNO Mobile phones for some years before it received market
acceptance in 2008. This young man, once carried files around looking for job
as a graduate, he applied to work for several companies just like a common
Nigerian graduate, but was constantly denied opportunities just like most
graduates are being denied today; he once had a small shop where he repaired
computers, but he was never deterred as he kept on dreaming and never lost
focus.
This man
never lost focus even when the market didn't accept the first models of Tecno
phones, funny enough he was giving the phones to dealers on credit for them to
pay back after they sale, just to ensure that he wins them over. Even when
phones were returned to him unsold and the market saw his product as another
Chinese toy, he never gave up on his focus, and today, that minuscule lines of
hope has paid off.
He
probably never dreamed of owning a phone company or even starting one that
would be viral and strong enough to compete favorably with Apple Inc. and
Samsung Mobile.
Disappointment
they say is a blessing. Few years ago, this young man approached Nokia with an
Idea, Nokia didn't take him serious, they probably felt his idea was worthless,
today, that same idea Nokia neglected years ago is gradually kicking them out
of the market.
He
traveled to Hong Kong just like most of our Nigerian Business class, but he
didn't just travel there to import another Chinese toy that wouldn't last it's
warranty, he traveled with an Idea, and today that idea is possibly bigger than
the imaginations he had while he sat on that plane to Hong Kong.
Even when
Tecno was already thriving, he decided to introduce a new phone, and he thought
of Infinix. Most youths go to the argue about Tecno and Infinix without knowing
that whether you buy Infinix or Tecno you are enriching the same pocket, and
that's the result of focus.
Next Time
when you use your Tecno or Infinix phones for a slaying Instagram selfie,
remember that both phones were started and financed by a Nigerian, who was once
helpless but not hopeless, one who had focus and was never eaten by the locusts
of hopelessness; one who knew that there are bigger opportunities that lies
beyond slaying Instagram selfies.
Nnamdi
Ezeigbo, the CEO of Slot Systems Limited and founder of Tecno and Infinix phone
brands is a big story that should inspire every Nigerian. If your best doesn't
happen today, then it would one day, just don't loose focus.
Make the
best of every situation you find yourself in, regardless of how harsh those
conditions may be. If Nnamdi had relaxed or given up on life after his
applications for jobs were constantly trashed even before they were read or
when Nokia had told him a deafening NO, we may not be enjoying the Camon
C9 or Hot 3 most of us now enjoy. We
have those products and even more because he never lost focus and never gave up
on his dreams.
