I told my
cousin that MIKEL is a slow midfielder and she was like
"Really?
I didn't even know you are a soccer fan"
Of course
she didn't believe I am a soccer fan, because she had never seen or hear me
talk about soccer, I don't have a Nike boot nor an Addidas socks, not even a
single soccer jersey was in my closet. So she concluded in her mind that I was
probably alien to soccer; that my kind could ask you if it was Arsene Wenger
that scored the winning goal for Chelsea or if Messi was taller than Peter
Crouch.
Same thing
happened when I told her how I preferred Sia to Taylor Swift. My revelation
left her in awe, as she wondered when I became a music fan.
Of course
she had never seen or heard me lip sync any song, and she rarely saw me with
headphones. So her conclusion was that I never listened to Music. She assumed
that my kind could ask if Rick Ross has 6 abs or if Wizkid was the artiste that
sang Woju.
To her, I
was just a tech savvy, always locked up on my desktop either working on my
blogs or typing away the clumsy thoughts in my milky skull. Sometimes, she
concluded that I was just a Geek and with my hairstyle I would soon be wearing
those microscopic glasses to complete my look.
Of course
she had wondered what sort of person would stay glued to the system from dawn
to dusk, not leave the house and may not bother about food.
What sort
of person would wake up and not say a word or join a discussion from morning
till night, just locked up in a corner making clanking noise with the keyboard,
only changing positions at intervals.
Definitely
that's the reason why she stopped visiting, what good was my boring apartment
to her, when the stereo and TV sets would remain in same position she left them
2 months ago when she visited; a proof they weren't touched.
Few weeks
ago, a colleague was shocked at what I did.
*** Amebo,
you don't expect me to tell you what I did, but if you insist to know. I kissed
your girl friend***
My
colleague thought I was one rigid dude who stuck to rules, disciplined and very
time conscious. Of course I might have those qualities but I was not as rigid as
she had thought me to be.
Suddenly it
hit me; often times people conclude your life from just one encounter. They
assume they know what you would say in a particular situation. But the truth is
that they know nothing.
I influence
how I can be seen, my life is my movie, and all you do is keep watching. So
sometimes when you conclude on certain things about me, I just sit in my
comfort zone and laugh.
Don't think
you have the right perception of who I am, my black toggle coat might not mean
swag but some other thing you won't wish to know.
*** Not
everyone deserve to know the real you, sometimes you have to let them criticize
and gossip the who they think you are.
